Caps vs Kings Hockey Game

:: Tags: Dylan, Event, Fun, Hockey

For a birthday present, Uncle Mike gave Dylan (and myself) tickets to the Capitals home game against the LA Kings. The tickets were for the seats we normally get, lower level just above the visitors bench tunnel. Even though Dylan says he doesn’t want to play hockey like his dad, he still enjoys going to live games with me to cheer on the hometown team. He also really loves the boardwalk style French fries they serve at the games. Did I mention he really loves French Fries?!

Dylan’s 9th Birthday

:: Tags: Birthday, Dylan, Family, Friends, Fun, Ice Skating

This year Dylan wanted to have an ice skating party for his birthday, so Julie and I rented the party room at MedStar Capitals Iceplex along with some ice time for him and his friends. With all his friends present, Dylan celebrated with pizza, a tower of chocolate doughnuts, and a whole lot of fun on the ice rink. Uncle Mike and Alex even showed up and got in some ice time to help Dylan celebrate.

Happy Birthday Dylan!

Pinewood Derby 2019

:: Tags: Dylan, Event, Scouting

Here is a small collection of photos from this years CS Pack1229 Pinewood Derby at the Congressional School in Falls Church, VA. Dylan and I worked really hard on his car this year and even though he won several of the preliminary heats for his den level, he still wasn’t quite fast enough to beat out Connor M. (also a Webelo) who had the fastest car in the entire pack. All the Scouts did a great job on their cars this year and remember… there’s always next year.

Cub Scout Awards

:: Tags: Dylan, Friends, Scouting

Dylan and the other boys in my Webelos Den have been working extremely hard at completing their adventure requirements and tonight while sharing an up coming project, Dylan and some of the others are being awarded for their most recent accomplishments. Looks like I need to teach him to stand still when he shakes the Cubmaster’s hand and receives his award, so I can get a decent picture!

Homestead Ski Trip

:: Tags: Dylan, Food, Friends, Skiing, Travel, Weekend Excursion

I was so excited for the long weekend to finally get here. We’ve been looking forward to getting out of town now for months and Dylan and I were ready to do some skiing. Over the past couple of years, we have been somewhat indoctrinated in to a family tradition of joining the Baur family for three days of fun, food and skiing. Over the long Martin Luther King holiday weekend, we all make the long 4 hour drive down to the Homestead Omni Resort in Hot Springs, VA.

This has turned into an annual event that Dylan and I really look forward to for both the skiing and the company of great friends. What a perfect weekend and the weather was awesome! Maybe a little cold for some people, but when you’re skiing, who cares. We enjoyed the weekend so much, I think we might try to head back down next month.

Finally Some Snow

:: Tags: Dylan, Fun, Snow Storms

Well we finally had a ourselves a big enough snowstorm to actually call it that. That’s right… it wasn’t a blizzard by any means, but it was enough to have to shovel, about 6 to 8 inches total I think. I know Dylan really enjoyed it and spent most of the day out sledding with Julie in the neighborhood next to ours where all the hills are. We well be heading to Homestead next weekend to go skiing… I really hope they got some fresh snow too!

Doug & Julie’s NYC Trip

:: Tags: Family, Food, Friends, Travel

It’s becoming and annual event for my first post of the new year to always be about our trip to New York City to see our good friends Brian and Dush and the rest of the Bedford family. I love this trip… mostly because taking the train to New York is so easy and relaxing, it almost makes you forget you’re traveling. But I also enjoy getting together with our close family and friends and venturing out on the city to explore new restaurants and enjoy great conversations over great food and wine. We’re truly spoiled in some ways… and blessed, that we are able to gather like this two or three times a year.

Xmas 2018

:: Tags: Dylan, Family, Holiday's, Thoughtful

Christmas this year was pretty low key. We did have both sets of grand parents over for the day and did a nice dinner for everyone, but this year just felt a little more mellow than years past. Maybe it’s because Dylan is starting to grow up and doesn’t require as much attention as he has in the past. At any rate, it was a nice day and a nice gathering… Merry Christmas Everyone!

Hockey for Dylan

:: Tags: Dylan, Fun, Hockey, Ice Skating

Dylan’s been spending a lot of time practicing his ice skating lately and now that he has a new pair of Bauer Hockey skates, his skating skills have improved greatly. The ice rink where he takes lessons has free skates from time to time called ‘Recess on the Rink’, where you can bring your child and let them practice their hockey skills on ice with out all the pads. it’s like a stick & shoot for young kids who don’t play hockey yet. Dylan has been to several of my hockey games and has mentioned on several occasions that he would like to try it, but doesn’t want us to sigh him up for hockey lessons. So, I figured this would be a good way to get him interested. He’s already looking forward to the next time we can skate and slap the puck around together. Nice job D!

Carbon Leaf @ The Birchmere

:: Tags: Evening Out, Fun, Holiday's, Photo

I’m starting to suspect that this is becoming an annual event for my brother and I, but who knows. I do know that Julie and I enjoy the venue and the band, so I guess it’s a good way to ring in the holidays. Here are a couple of photos from Carbon Leaf’s annual Christmas holiday show at the Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria, VA.
