Dylan wins RS Art Contest

:: Tags: Dylan, School, Thoughtful

The River School has an art contest every year for the purpose of finding the perfect design to represent the annual Jill Bailey Chenet River Walk. This years contest winner was my son, Dylan, and along with being recognized by the entire school, he will also get his design put on all the tee-shirts for this years big event… The River Walk. This is a huge honor for any of the students, but even more so for Dylan, as this is his last year at the River School. As a 3rd grade Falcon, Dylan will be ageing out of the River School at the end of the school year in June.

Here are some links for more information about the River School’s beloved teacher and friend, Jill Bailey Chenet and the River School’s Jill Bailey Chenet Scholarship Fund.

Xmas 2018

:: Tags: Dylan, Family, Holiday's, Thoughtful

Christmas this year was pretty low key. We did have both sets of grand parents over for the day and did a nice dinner for everyone, but this year just felt a little more mellow than years past. Maybe it’s because Dylan is starting to grow up and doesn’t require as much attention as he has in the past. At any rate, it was a nice day and a nice gathering… Merry Christmas Everyone!

This year we celebrated Mother’s Day once again at the Cosmos Club in Washington, DC. As in years past, this has become a favorite gathering place for our family to celebrate the mothers in our lives. We are all very happy that we can come together each year in such a wonderful place for such an important holiday. Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

“A family photo on Mother’s Day 2016” – The Cosmos Club, Washington, DC.

This year for Mother’s Day, Julies father Bruce, came up with the fantastic idea to take everyone to brunch downtown at the very exclusive Cosmos Club. Bruce, being a member of the Yale Club, gets special VIP privileges at two dozen or so other exclusive private clubs around the world. So, with both sets of grandparents in town for Mother’s Day we decided to dress up and go enjoy a top notch meal in a fabulous venue with three wonderful mothers!! “The Cosmos Club, located in Washington, D.C., was founded by John Wesley Powell in 1878. It is a private social club for men and women distinguished in science, literature and the arts or public service. Members come from virtually every profession that has anything to do with scholarship, creative genius or intellectual distinction.”

“Dylan showing off his first lost baby tooth” – Arlington, VA.

Dylan lost his first baby tooth the other day and the first words out of his mouth where… “So, how much do you think it’s worth?!” I think the tooth fairy was way too generous, but he and Julie did do a great job of promoting it… so I played along as a good father should. How do those little chick-lets even stay in his mouth anyway?!

Here is  collection of pictures my wife and I have taken over the past year of our precious son Dylan. We post these mainly for our family and friends who can’t always be around to visit with us on a regular schedule. My mother says it’s nice to be able to just click on my site and see her grand son when ever she wants. It’s almost like being here… and as you can tell, Dylan has done some growing this past year. We all had a great year and look forward to another fantastic one in 2016!

Dylan’s School puts on a hot pizza lunch for all the fathers twice a year and the kids really love the idea of being able to have lunch with their dads! Dylan really looks forward to this event so I make sure I take time off work to attend. Here are a couple of photos I was able to snap off during the fun of the pizza party!

Dylan ready and looking forward to his first day of Kindergarten!

Today we celebrate Dylan’s first day of Kindergarten. It’s hard to believe that the summer is already over, but it’s even harder to believe that my little boy is growing up so fast and starting his first year of ‘school’! Time really does fly by as you get older… I wish we could slow it down to spend more time with the ones we love. We are so proud of Dylan and we look forward to all the fun and joy the future brings! Have a great year my son!!

“Dylan and I hugging it out on my birthday weekend” – Arlington, VA.

I wasn’t going to make a big deal about my birthday this year and I told Julie that I didn’t want a big party or anything like that, but it is my 50th. Fifty…holy shit! I remember twenty five years ago making comments that I would be lucky to see forty… glad I was wrong about that. I’m also that my wife and family talked me into giving up smoking as well… my health has become very important to me especially now that I have a son. I plan on being around for a long, long time! Here are a couple of photos from my birthday dinner out with Julie at The Chart House in Alexandria and a couple of other pictures that Julie has taken over the past several months which she was nice enough to share.

Daddy’s New Ride!

:: Tags: Awesome, Dylan, Thoughtful

20140926-IMG_1076

As an early Christmas present to myself I have finally decided to break down and get a new vehicle. My current vehicle, even though it has very low miles, is still going on ten years of age. It’s also starting to have some issues with electrical system components as well as some mechanical issues, but is still in pretty great shape.

So I decided to replace my old 2006 Cadillac Escalade (a hand-me-down from my grandfather) with a brand new 2015 Cadillac Escalade… and so far, I am thoroughly impressed with this vehicle. I had to special order it due to the fact that they were on back order, so I didn’t get a chance to really drive and check it out before hand… but WOW, I like it!! Let’s hope Dylan doesn’t try to write his name on the side of this one with a stick like he did my last one!
