“Dylan and Dad snorkeling just off the beach” – Castle Island, Bermuda

As I said in my previous post, we didn’t have the best of weather this week, but our last day turned out to be perfect… for snorkeling that is! Here are some photos from our boat trip over to Castle Island for a day of snorkeling on the reef and in the shallows of Castle Harbour. I hope to post some videos of our adventures soon!

“Finally a beautiful sunny day to enjoy some snorkeling” – Castle Island, Bermuda

The second half of our week was also mixed as far as the weather went, but we made the best of it and spent one of the rainy days sightseeing with Carlyta at the Crystal Caves. We did have some good days hanging out at the pools drinking margaritas and watching the sun poke in and out of the clouds. I really don’t think anyone would have complained too much about the situation at hand, especially seeing it from our point of view.

On our last day, the wind finally died down and we where able to rent a boat and head over to Castle Island beach for some snorkeling. Carlyta told us she had never been snorkeling before and this would be one activity she would really like to try, so I’m happy the weather laid back enough for us to make it happen. Dylan has also become quite the little ‘Aquaman’ over the summer and he showed his skills on an hour long swim snorkeling around Castle Island reef. I’ll add another post later on with more photos and even some video from our snorkeling adventure to Castle Island.

“Enjoying a nice dinner out at the Beach Club” – Tucker’s Point Club, Bermuda

Our second trip of the season to beautiful Bermuda would also be a less than perfect one due to mother nature. With several storms in the Atlantic, we would have a chance of on and off rain showers just about every day while on the island, but we were determined not to let this get us down. We’ve had such good luck with the weather in past years that it’s hard to get too upset about having one or two wet and windy weeks here… after all, we are still in paradise. This trip we brought along our son’s nanny Carlyta, who helped out with Dylan and also enjoyed relaxing with us on the beach and at the pools.

The weather didn’t turn out to be as bad as expected, so our day outing to St. Georges, Alexandra Battery Park and Sea Glass Beach went very well. Tilman Fertitta’s amazing $40 million motor yacht ‘Boardwalk’ was tied up at the cruse ship dock on Ordnance IslandĀ in St. Georges and we got to see her depart Bermuda while at Sea Glass Beach. We also managed to get down to the Dockyards for some shopping, sightseeing and of course lunch at one of our favorite spots… The Frog & Onion Pub. When it did rain it poured… but that would turn out to make for some great sunset photography!

06/20/2016 – “Dylan spending some time at the pools” – Tucker’s Point, Bermuda

Here are a couple of home movies I’ve put together from our recent trip to Tucker’s Point Club in Bermuda. A lot of the footage in these movies was shot with my wife’s waterproof camera. Although its not a high dollar video camera, it does quite well in the water as long as it doesn’t flood! Click the link below to see all the videos.

“Dylan riding a canon into battle” – Royal Navel Dockyards, Bermuda, HS.

We have at least five trips planned for this year and our first big one is always our annual spring Bermuda trip. We decided again this year to wait until late June when Dylan was out of school before making our first trip. Closer to summer means that the water will be warmer. It could have been a better week weather wise, but we made due with what mother nature gave us. This year we invited my brother Mike and his girlfriend Melissa to join us for the week! They had some scheduling conflicts, but were able to fly in and join us for five days.

We had a great week of sight seeing, boating, snorkeling, a nice dinner out, and tons of fun at the beach club and swimming pools. I didn’t get to play any golf this trip, but we did make it down to the Royal Navel Dockyards for lunch and some great shopping. Dylan is getting so much better with his swimming that I think next year he wont need a life jacket at all while snorkeling in open water! We look forward to taking Uncle Mike and Melissa back to Bermuda with us again in the futureā€¦ we all had so much fun together and Dylan loves the extra attention!

Sea Glass Beach at Alexandra Battery Park – St. George’s Parish, Bermuda

Here is the second installment of pictures from our recent family trip to beautiful Bermuda. There are a lot of photos in this set from our excursion to Alexandra Battery Park for Julies sea glass collecting adventure. I also had a chance to capture Dylan being himself in the small surf at the sea glass beach without fear of him being pulled away by the currents. We finished off the afternoon with lunch and pool time at the beach club and then a golf cart ride home for dinner and a nice quite evening. I’ll post some videos from our trip later after I have a chance to edit them.

“Dylan and his smiley face Sand Man” – Tucker’s Point Beach Club, Bermuda

For our end of summer Bermuda trip this year we decided to make it a family retreat and invited the entire Bedford clan to join us for the week. It was a nice week of rest and relaxation and some very nice dinners out on the town. On the down side, Dylan got an ear infection the day before our trip which we ended up having to take him to the hospital for shortly after arriving on the island. Trying to keep a 5 year old out of the pool with an ear infection is a no win situation. And then to make things worse, Julie picked up a stomach bug the second day of our trip and spent much of the week in bed.

This was not a super fun trip for all of us this time around, but we have had some great luck traveling to the island in the past 10 years, so I guess we where due for one. We where able to salvage our last two days and got Julie out to go sea glass hunting on the North side of the island at Alexandra Battery Beach which is where the Deliverance was built and launched from back in 1610 heading for Virginia and captained by Admiral Sir George Somers. I love Bermuda… there is just so much history there that you cant over look.

As promised, here are a couple of home movies from our late spring trip to Bermuda. The first video features Dylan playing in the surf and swinging glow sticks during dinner at the Beach Club barbecue. The second video features Uncle Mike as he helps out with the daily 12 o’clock noon wench dunking in St. Georges Square.

Doug, Dylan and uncle Mike ready to snorkel the reef – Castle Island, Bermuda

This is the second installment of pictures from our June trip to Bermuda. We took uncle Mike with us on this trip to help out with Dylan and also to give him a little break from the world. It was a real treat having Mike along and we did a lot more in the way of activities than I think we would have done had he not been there. Mike was also a big help in teaching Dylan how to snorkel for the first time out at Castle Island reef. Thanks uncle Mike… we hope you enjoy the photos!

Dylan and Uncle Mike on top of Tucker’s Point Tower – Tucker’s Point Club, Bermuda

We didn’t plan a lot of travel this summer, but our annual spring and fall trips to Bermuda are a given. We decided to wait until Dylan was out of school to make our first trip, so it would be June this year. A little closer to summer than normal for us, it would still turn out to be a nice week weather wise. This year we invited my brother Mike to join us for the week and (needing a vacation badly) he excepted! We had a great week of sight seeing, boating, golfing, snorkeling, a beach barbecue, a ‘winch dunking’, a tour of the Crystal Caves and tons of fun at the beach club and swimming pools. Mike and I got to play a couple rounds of golf and we took Dylan to Castle Island for his first experience at snorkeling on the reef. He did great for a 5 year old in open water! We look forward to taking Uncle Mike back with us again in the future… he was a huge help and a lot of fun for Dylan to hang out with.
