Autumn At The Marina…

:: Tags: Boating, Environment, Photo

An absolutely picture perfect day at Belmont Bay Marina – Nov. 14, 2010

Well it’s done… the boat is completely winterized and another awesome boating season unfortunately comes to a close. After finishing the work on the boat and installing the winter cockpit cover, I took a few moments to reflect on the past summer and then snapped off a few photos of the beautiful fall colors as I left the marina for the last time this year. It’s probably going to be another bad winter and I sure am going to miss her, but on a positive note… next season is only 4 or 5 months away!!

A Frozen Belmont Bay Marina

:: Tags: Boating, Environment

The Washington DC metro area has fallen under a nasty weather system that promises to leave it’s mark on anything that has contact with water and the elements. That’s right, we’re in the grips of a bad freeze! For the last few days I’ve heard stories of burst water pipes and flooded basements, but what really caught my attention was when I heard someone say that the Potomac River had frozen. Granted the ice isn’t thick enough to walk across, but it’s still been quite a long time since we’ve had this sever of a freeze.

All this said, I decided that it might be a good idea to run down to the marina where we keep our boat and have a look at the present situation. We had our boat completely winterized last December, but because it stays in the water year round we still have to worry about big freezes like this one! After checking and confirming that the cabin heater and underwater slip deicer were working properly I decided to snap off some photos of the marina for my journal. Click the link below to see all the photos… Enjoy!

Ocean Oil Drilling…

:: Tags: Environment, Rants

I received this in an email the other day and thought it interesting enough to write a post about it. It seems that the United States Government (a.k.a. President George Bush) has decided to start drilling holes in the bottom of the ocean again in search of more oil. The ocean is what keeps this planet and us alive… if we keep drilling holes in it and releasing pollutants into it we are going to kill it and inevitably kill ourselves! Isn’t our climate and this planet as a whole screwed up enough?! Let Bush know where we stand on this issue!!
