The Motorola Dynatac 8000x

:: Tags: Lost & Found, Too Cool!

The other day I was going through some boxes in my workroom and ran across a device I though I had lost years ago. Way back in the day, when cellular phone technology was just getting started there where two types of cellular telephones you could purchase… the original “Phone in a Bag” or “Car Phone” model or the much more expensive handheld model which inventor Martin Cooper is credited with designing in 1973.

I cant remember what year I switched up from my “Car Phone” to the Motorola Dynatac 8000x, but it was pretty cool being able to stick your mobile phone in your back pocket! I got the newer model that had a smaller battery pack and was sold exclusively by Cellular One at that time. It dropped calls constantly and didn’t work anywhere outside of major cites, but cellular was just taking off and I new this was going to be the thing of the future. Wow, how times (and technology) have changed!! Oh yeah, and after charging it… it still works!!

The Last Day Of Boating Season

11/04/2014 – Belmont Bay & Sandy Point – Potomac River, VA.

I went down to the marina today to start winterizing the boat and decided to take her out for one last ride before putting her away for the winter. I had one more weekend left before the weather turned really cold and most of the hard stuff like the washing and waxing was already done. I always miss the boat in the winter, but boating in the winter I do not miss… damn that wind was cold!

“Julie and Uncle Mike dressed up for the occasion” – Trick-Or-Treating – Arlington, VA.

Here are some photos from Dylan’s Halloween weekend including his school parade and the evenings trick-or-treating festivities with the grand parents and uncle Mike! And yes… even Julie and uncle Mike dressed up to get in the spirit of the moment. We all had a lot of fun and Dylan brought home a huge amount of candy for the evening.

Wish I had remembered to bring a better video camera for Dylan’s first night of house to house ‘Trick or Treating’! Oh well, here is one of the videos I did manage to find on my phone… I hope you enjoy it.

Today Julie, Dylan and I spent the afternoon in Washington at the Armed Forces Retirement Center cheering on my Brother as he raced through the woods for the 2014 DC Cycle Cross in hopes of a top 3 finish and a medal. Even with a great start, he would not be on the podium this year as one to many wrecks would push him back to around 10 place in the standings, but Dylan, riding in his second kids cycle cross race would bring home a medal. We were all very proud of both the family cycle racers!

Dylan Washing His Caddy

10/11/2014 – “Dylan washing his Cadillac Escalade after cruising the park”

Here is a cute little video of Dylan washing his battery powered Cadillac after coming home from the park. He said he needed to wash it before he put it away so it would be clean for tomorrow. I told him it was going to rain, but he said he didn’t mind… “It still needs to be clean for tomorrow, Daddy!”

As an early Christmas present to myself I have finally decided to break down and get a new vehicle. My current vehicle, even though it has very low miles, is still going on ten years of age. It’s also starting to have some issues with electrical system components as well as some mechanical issues, but is still in pretty great shape.

So I decided to replace my old 2006 Cadillac Escalade (a hand-me-down from my grandfather) with a brand new 2015 Cadillac Escalade… and so far, I am thoroughly impressed with this vehicle. I had to special order it due to the fact that they were on back order, so I didn’t get a chance to really drive and check it out before hand… but WOW, I like it!! Let’s hope Dylan doesn’t try to write his name on the side of this one with a stick like he did my last one!

09/16/2014 – “Dylan enjoying a day at the kids pool” – Tucker’s Point Beach Club

As promised, here are a couple of home movies from our recent trip to Bermuda with the grand parents. I’ve started to do a lot more video on our trips now that I have a newer more powerful video editing software at my disposal. I also plan to create a new platform on my website for showing off my videos in my travel/dive trip section… more on that later.

“Ray and Barbara outside The Point Restaurant before dinner” – Tucker’s Point Hotel & Spa, Bermuda.

Here are some more photos from our annual end of summer family trip to Bermuda. I have to thank my father for taking and sharing a lot of the photos in this post… it’s hard to take photos of your son and be in them at the same time! Thanks again Dad and I hope you and Mom, as well as Bruce and Ann, had a wonderful time staying with us for the week. Hope we can do it again soon!!

“Looking out over Tucker’s Point private beach” – Tucker’s Point Beach Club, Bermuda.

We changed things up a little for our annual end of summer Bermuda trip this year. My parents, even they travel a lot, have never been to Bermuda, so Julie and I thought it would be nice to have them accompany us and Dylan for a week of fun in the sun. What made this trip even better was having Julie’s parents there at the same time so Dylan could enjoy all the grand parents at once. I think everyone had a very nice time and the grand parents got to enjoy some very special quality time with their favorite grand son… Dylan.
