More From Colorado…

During our trip to Winter Park we found some time to get away from the slopes for a little sight seeing. We took a day off in the middle of the week to hit Steamboat and then another half day to tour around downtown Denver. On our last day in Colorado we took a long detour to the airport and hit the town of Golden Colorado to see the America Mountaineering Museum. This was such a great trip and we covered so much ground it felt like we were driving all over the state! Here are some photos from our sight seeing detours during our stay in Colorado…. Enjoy!

Snowboarding In Colorado…

We just got back from spending a week at altitude in Winter Park Colorado and for someone who’s not use to being much more than one or two hundred feet above sea level I can tell you it was a task!! I’m not going to go into a long story about the trip just because the photos can pretty much speak for them selves! I will say that after finally getting the hang of it the snowboarding thing was a hell of a lot of fun!! Enjoy the photos… more to come!!

A Captiva Holiday…

:: Tags: Photo, Travel

This past Thanksgiving Julie and I traveled down to Captiva Florida for her family’s annual holiday gathering. We spent the week at South Seas Resort on Captiva Island which is on the Gulf side of Florida. There’s not much in the way of diving there, but that wasn’t the reason for our trip anyway. While visiting with her family, we managed to find some free time to do some sight seeing and a little exploring.  We even found some time to hit the beach… after all, it is an island! But the highlight of the trip (at least for me) was the chance to finally meet all of Julie’s cousins and their children for the first time. Here are some generic photos from our exploration of the island resort… enjoy!

Some Photos From Cayman…

:: Tags: Photo, Travel

I’ve taken a break from my normal daily grind to throw a couple of images up from our Grand Cayman trip. It always makes me feel better to do non work related stuff during the day! No, I still haven’t gotten around to editing all the underwater photos yet. Nor have I had a chance to make a new travel page for the ‘Dive Trip’ section of my Web site. However… I did save a ton of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico! Sorry… I’ve been dieing to use that line!

Anyway, here are some teaser topside photos that didn’t need any editing. Enjoy… more to follow!

Sunset at Castaway Island…

:: Tags: Photo, Travel

A couple of weeks ago, while going back through some of the photos from our Fiji trip earlier this year, I came across a folder of images that I had not previously seen. The photos were ones taken by both Julie and myself with our small land camera on Castaway Island. We normally use large format cameras for our underwater photography, but now we also keep a small Fujifilm FinePix F31fd with us as a pocket camera (for those times when we don’t want to look like a paparazzi.) Although it doesn’t have the same sensor quality as a digital SLR, it does take very nice pictures and at a fraction of the cost of my Nikon!

Just about every evening, during the Castaway Island cocktail hour, Julie and I would go to the Sundowner Bar to watch and photograph the brilliant South Pacific sunsets. It wasn’t until I looked at the photos on a large monitor that I realized how nice they actually turned out. Here are a couple sample photos from the sunset collection taken with our Fujifilm FinePix F31fd… Enjoy!

Alice & Carl’s Wedding Pictures

:: Tags: Event, Photo

UPDATE: I have finally finished editing all of Alice and Carl’s wedding pictures from this past July. As I stated in my previous post, Carl has asked me to keep the pictures password protected for now so I’ll only post a few of the not so personal ones here. If you were at the wedding or have permission from the bride & groom, you can access the entire wedding photo collection and even purchase high quality professional prints from the gallery at Smugmug. Please note that this gallery is copyright protected.

A Perfect Day at Belmont Bay!

:: Tags: Boating, Photo

The weekend weather in the DC area has been totally unpredictable over the past couple of months. It seems that these freak severe thunderstorms with extremely high winds have become the norm for Sunday boating. On several occasion now, myself and others have been caught up in some very nasty conditions while out on the Potomac. On one such Sunday we had to batten down and ride out a bad storm for almost two hours while anchored… Not Fun!

So, when you do finally get a good storm-free weekend you really have to enjoy it!! Here are some pictures from a Sunday afternoon two weekends ago out on the backside of Belmont Bay. As you can see… everyone was enjoying the weather for a change!!

A Day In Pompeii….

:: Tags: Photo, Travel

080712_oip007288Last month, while Julie and I were in North Carolina for Alice and Carl’s wedding, we had some extra time to take in the sights of downtown Charlotte. One of the better known attractions of Charlotte is the Discovery Place Center right on Main Street. Along with the dinosaur exhibit and the indoor rain forest the center was also hosting a new exhibit called ‘A Day in Pompeii’.

It was a very interesting and educational exhibit detailing the events of a Roman city that was buried in 79 A.D. by a catastrophic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in Italy. The history of this ancient city remained hidden and forgotten until archeologists began to excavate the site in 1748. Here’s a small hand full of photos from the exhibit and our day in Charlotte… Enjoy!

The Fiji Islands – Revisited…

:: Tags: Computers, Photo

I’ve just finished updating some of the apps/plug-ins for Word Press and as a result I’ve also found several new and very slick features to help populate thumbnails in my posts. I spend quite a bit of time searching the internet for new scripts and plug-ins to help me with the management of my server and Websites and every now and again it pays off! Just last week I came across a WP plug-in that uses the RSS feeds from my photo sales site (Smugmug) to populate my image galleries to my journal posts.

This is so nice… now I only have to upload my images once to Smugmug and I can just link to them over RSS! The weird thing about this plug-in is it’s not in the WP plug-in directory… it was written and distributed by Adam Tow on his personal Website.

Anyway, I’m using this post as the testing ground for several new plug-ins, so you might see some changes over the next couple of days. Once I get the bugs worked out I’ll post some more stories. Alice & Carl’s Wedding…!

:: Tags: Event, Photo

This past weekend we traveled to Charlotte NC to help celebrate the long awaited wedding of our good friends Alice & Carl! Julie and I planned to attend the wedding on Friday evening and then spend all day Saturday in downtown Charlotte doing the ‘tourist’ thing before flying back to DC Saturday night. The wedding ceremony, which was set to begin at 7pm sharp, was held outside on a large patio overlooking a small sunlit forest. It was a little on the warm side, but the slight breeze and covered patio made it much easier on the guests. The beautiful natural backdrop was perfect for an outdoor wedding and made the event very pleasing to the eyes!
