Dylan and I during the Dad’s Hot Lunch Event! @RS – Washington, DC.

Dylan’s School puts on a hot pizza lunch for all the fathers twice a year and the kids really love the idea of being able to have lunch with their dads! Dylan really looks forward to this event so I make sure I take time off work to attend. Here are a couple of photos I was able to snap off during the fun of the pizza party!

Dylan ready and looking forward to his first day of Kindergarten!

Today we celebrate Dylan’s first day of Kindergarten. It’s hard to believe that the summer is already over, but it’s even harder to believe that my little boy is growing up so fast and starting his first year of ‘school’! Time really does fly by as you get older… I wish we could slow it down to spend more time with the ones we love. We are so proud of Dylan and we look forward to all the fun and joy the future brings! Have a great year my son!!

Dylan thinking he is big enough to ride uncle Mike’s Ducati…?!

Today my brother Mike rode his motorcycle over to the house to visit with us and hangout with Dylan for the afternoon. After watching Dylan climb up on Mike’s Ducati it accrued to me that he could not only reach the handle bars, but he could also reach the pegs with his feet. My little boy is getting bigger every day… I just hope he doesn’t ask for one of these for his birthday!

The Blue Angels Flyover

The Blue Angels flyover at the Air Force Memorial – Arlington, VA.

We heard about a possible flyover of the US Navy’s Blue Angels on the radio this afternoon and decided to try and find a nice place on the river to catch the show and take some pictures. They don’t normally advertise when they plan on flying over the Washington Metro area and I guess you can probably understand why that is, but this time they did. As a mater of fact, they gave so much advance warning that when we got to the Air Force Memorial, which is where we decided to try and watch the show, it was pretty much already packed with would-be spectators.

The information on the radio was that they where going to be doing flyovers at Reagan National Airport for a photo shoot and that one of the trainer planes would be taking photos as they flew over Washington, DC. I think it was for a “Fly Navy” advertising campaign or something like that, but who really knows. Instead of flying down the river in line with the DCA landing flight path they actually flew across the river from Washington into Arlington… through the DCA flight path and almost directly over the Air Force Memorial where we were set up to watch. WOW, what a great sight! They only made two passes, but it was enough time for me to snap off some awesome photos with my Nikon D7100 and 70-200mm f/2.8G FX VRII Zoom Lens. Enjoy the photos!

08/21/2015 – “Triditional Bermuda Gombey Dancers at the Bech Club” – Tucker’s Point, Bermuda

Here are several home movies from our end of summer family retreat to beautiful Bermuda. The first video is from the Tucker’s Point Beach Club during the after dinner festivities and features some of the traditional Bermuda Gombey Dancers as they put on a show for the members and guests of the club. The second two videos are of Dylan at the kids pool showing off his new found swimming skills. He is finally enjoying going under water!

Sea Glass Beach at Alexandra Battery Park – St. George’s Parish, Bermuda

Here is the second installment of pictures from our recent family trip to beautiful Bermuda. There are a lot of photos in this set from our excursion to Alexandra Battery Park for Julies sea glass collecting adventure. I also had a chance to capture Dylan being himself in the small surf at the sea glass beach without fear of him being pulled away by the currents. We finished off the afternoon with lunch and pool time at the beach club and then a golf cart ride home for dinner and a nice quite evening. I’ll post some videos from our trip later after I have a chance to edit them.

“Dylan and his smiley face Sand Man” – Tucker’s Point Beach Club, Bermuda

For our end of summer Bermuda trip this year we decided to make it a family retreat and invited the entire Bedford clan to join us for the week. It was a nice week of rest and relaxation and some very nice dinners out on the town. On the down side, Dylan got an ear infection the day before our trip which we ended up having to take him to the hospital for shortly after arriving on the island. Trying to keep a 5 year old out of the pool with an ear infection is a no win situation. And then to make things worse, Julie picked up a stomach bug the second day of our trip and spent much of the week in bed.

This was not a super fun trip for all of us this time around, but we have had some great luck traveling to the island in the past 10 years, so I guess we where due for one. We where able to salvage our last two days and got Julie out to go sea glass hunting on the North side of the island at Alexandra Battery Beach which is where the Deliverance was built and launched from back in 1610 heading for Virginia and captained by Admiral Sir George Somers. I love Bermuda… there is just so much history there that you cant over look.

The pilot had to blow off the landing at Boston airport due to visibility. Never a good sign when you’re on the plane!

Dylan and his orange 16″ Custom Mongoose Duster bike – Arlington, VA.

We sent Dylan to a local biking camp this summer as one of his summer activities and he totally loved it. We started Dylan out on a push/balance bike when he was very young, so the transition to a peddle bike last year was very quick and easy. He didn’t want training wheels at all during the transition, stating that they only got in the way. This spring we put him on one size larger peddle bike and he has turned out to be an outstanding rider for a five year old. As a matter of fact, the very first day of his two week biking camp, the director moved him from the beginners class to the advanced class with the bigger kids and told us he was way too good to be in his age level group. That same day he and his new class went on a group ride from Arlington to DC (about 6 to 7 miles round trip!) Since then we have taken him on bike rides of over 10 miles. This boy loves to bike!! Here are some photos of this summers biking fun.

Doug’s 50th Birthday!

“Dylan and I hugging it out on my birthday weekend” – Arlington, VA.

I wasn’t going to make a big deal about my birthday this year and I told Julie that I didn’t want a big party or anything like that, but it is my 50th. Fifty…holy shit! I remember twenty five years ago making comments that I would be lucky to see forty… glad I was wrong about that. I’m also that my wife and family talked me into giving up smoking as well… my health has become very important to me especially now that I have a son. I plan on being around for a long, long time! Here are a couple of photos from my birthday dinner out with Julie at The Chart House in Alexandria and a couple of other pictures that Julie has taken over the past several months which she was nice enough to share.
