The ride down was uneventful and took us just over an hour even with a pretty good head wind. Once there we realized right away why this event is called the biggest water party in the world. There were boats and people as far as the eye could see… it was truly unbelievable! There was a floating barge just off the beach which was used as a 2 story performance platform for the 7 different bands that played the event.

Oh yeah… you would think that being a big boating event they would have played some Jimmy Buffett or something right!? Wrong… the music was all country which really kind of sucked. I don’t mind country music, but it’s normally associated with rednecks… I’ll let you drawl your own conclusions!

The unofficial count for the Fairview Beach event on Saturday was over 1,000 boats and possibly more that 4,000 people in attendance. That’s a pretty big boat party if you ask me. Julie and I had to anchor almost 500 yards away from the beach in 10 feet of water because we simply couldn’t get our boat any closer with out running the risk of hitting other boats. Luckily Chris & Charlie showed up on Chris’ Baja and we were able to snake our way through the anchor lines using his boat to get to the front. It was crazy!!

Anyway to make a long story a little shorter, we had a great time and made it back to the docks at Belmont Bay Harbor just before dark. It was a much nicer ride home with the wind at or back and that helped out on the fuel economy as well.

NOTE: The pictures that I’ve posted here were taken during the 2008 event.
However, they were not taken by me.
These photos were pulled directly from the Aquapalooza Website.

UPDATE: Sunday afternoon, I got caught in a major storm out in the middle of Belmont Bay with several of my friends. The storm came out of nowhere and turned the normally calm waters into a real nightmare. The winds blew at a steady 40 or 50 knots and the seas grew to at least 2 to 3 feet for an hour or more! I’ve never seen it rain that hard or seen that many lightning strikes in one area in my life… it was really freaky. My anchor did slip once in the soft sandy bottom, so I had to reposition the boat during the height of the storm to keep from drifting into another raft-up of boats behind us. I’m happy we weren’t still down at Fairview Beach for this one… I read that they got hit hard too! Read Article Here»

This past weekend Julie and I took the boat down to Fairview Beach for Aquapalooza 2008.
