Well we’re finally home and some what settled from our land-based Cayman dive trip. Despite the storms that hit the island just prior to our trip, the weather and diving conditions were much better than expected. I haven’t had a chance to look at all the pictures yet, but I think we came back with some really good ones! I’ll write up a full post about the trip later after I’ve had time to go through and edit all the photos.
This weekend will be spent doing the usual unpacking & cleaning of all our dive gear. As much as I hate having to clean it all up and put it away, I know it has to be done. I’ll also have to soak the camera housings and strobes in clean fresh water for several days to loosen all the sand & salt deposits. Sounds like a lot of fun, doesn’t it?!
Julie and I wanted to thank her sister Susan and her husband Jason for allowing us to stay with them while in Toronto for the ‘family retreat’ last month. We had such a great time and it’s always nice to hear that everyone is doing so well. We also really enjoyed being able to spend so much quality time with the kids. Because of the distance, Julie and I don’t normally get the see them very often and that makes trips like this one very special!
I’ve been asked to keep most of the pictures private since there almost all photos of the kids, but here are a few shots from our outing to an apple picking orchard. (View Photos, Slideshows, Videos & More»)
UPDATE: I have finally finished editing all of Alice and Carl’s wedding pictures from this past July. As I stated in my previous post, Carl has asked me to keep the pictures password protected for now so I’ll only post a few of the not so personal ones here. If you were at the wedding or have permission from the bride & groom, you can access the entire wedding photo collection and even purchase high quality professional prints from the gallery at Smugmug. Please note that this gallery is copyright protected.
WOW… I would have never believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes! Sports drinks really do work… and the’re not just for athletes any more either. Check out this video… it is simply amazing (and also better than any clinical study ever released!) Thanks for the link Mike!!
I subscribe to a number of different video podcasts which include everything from financial market reports and world news to modern cooking and photography techniques. They all help fulfill my need for information, but when I need a good laugh I can always count on one of my favorites… “The Tiki Bar.” In this episode (#39 – Backstage Bender) the cast puts together some of their best outtakes and bloopers for our viewing pleasure… Enjoy!!
The weekend weather in the DC area has been totally unpredictable over the past couple of months. It seems that these freak severe thunderstorms with extremely high winds have become the norm for Sunday boating. On several occasion now, myself and others have been caught up in some very nasty conditions while out on the Potomac. On one such Sunday we had to batten down and ride out a bad storm for almost two hours while anchored… Not Fun!
So, when you do finally get a good storm-free weekend you really have to enjoy it!! Here are some pictures from a Sunday afternoon two weekends ago out on the backside of Belmont Bay. As you can see… everyone was enjoying the weather for a change!! (View Photos, Slideshows, Videos & More»)
Last month, while Julie and I were in North Carolina for Alice and Carl’s wedding, we had some extra time to take in the sights of downtown Charlotte. One of the better known attractions of Charlotte is the Discovery Place Center right on Main Street. Along with the dinosaur exhibit and the indoor rain forest the center was also hosting a new exhibit called ‘A Day in Pompeii’.
It was a very interesting and educational exhibit detailing the events of a Roman city that was buried in 79 A.D. by a catastrophic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in Italy. The history of this ancient city remained hidden and forgotten until archeologists began to excavate the site in 1748. Here’s a small hand full of photos from the exhibit and our day in Charlotte… Enjoy! (View Photos, Slideshows, Videos & More»)
I’ve just finished updating some of the apps/plug-ins for Word Press and as a result I’ve also found several new and very slick features to help populate thumbnails in my posts. I spend quite a bit of time searching the internet for new scripts and plug-ins to help me with the management of my server and Websites and every now and again it pays off! Just last week I came across a WP plug-in that uses the RSS feeds from my photo sales site (Smugmug) to populate my image galleries to my journal posts.
This is so nice… now I only have to upload my images once to Smugmug and I can just link to them over RSS! The weird thing about this plug-in is it’s not in the WP plug-in directory… it was written and distributed by Adam Tow on his personal Website.
Anyway, I’m using this post as the testing ground for several new plug-ins, so you might see some changes over the next couple of days. Once I get the bugs worked out I’ll post some more stories. Please Note: All photos on this site are copyright protected. (View Photos, Slideshows, Videos & More»)
This past weekend Julie and I took the boat down to Fairview Beach for Aquapalooza 2008. The ride down was uneventful and took us just over an hour even with a pretty good head wind. Once there we realized right away why this event is called the biggest water party in the world. There were boats and people as far as the eye could see… it was truly unbelievable! There was a floating barge just off the beach which was used as a 2 story performance platform for the 7 different bands that played the event.
Oh yeah… you would think that being a big boating event they would have played some Jimmy Buffett or something right!? Wrong… the music was all country which really kind of sucked. I don’t mind country music, but it’s normally associated with rednecks… I’ll let you drawl your own conclusions!
My brother just sent me a link to a Website that features a home made video called “Sales Guy vs. Web Dude”. The video is about 10 and a half minutes long, but it is well worth watching! Even if your not an IT person you’ll still get a huge laugh out of this one. According to the guys blog, he’s had over 1 million views of this video so far…!! Check it out and make sure you have your speakers turned on!!
